Three: General A. R. Manson, Indian Army

Alexander Robert Manson, who was born in October 1823, was commissioned in the 4th Native Infantry in December 1839 and first witnessed active service in the Punjab campaign 1848-49, when he was present and the siege and capture of Mooltan (Medal with clasp). Having then gained advancement to Major, he was present in the Persia operations of 1856-57, including the taking of Bushire, the storming of Reshire and the battle of Khooshab (Medal with clasp), for which he was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 30 January 1857). In the Indian Mutiny he was present in the action near Raighur and won another mention in despatches (London Gazette 31 January 1859), and was given the Brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel (Medal). Manson was advanced to General in August 1884 and was placed on the Retired List in July 1881.
