Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (James Marks, Carpenter, “Leander”.) engraved naming; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 2 clasps, Relief of Lucknow, Lucknow, clasp carriage altered (James Marks. Carpenter. “Shannon”.) re-engraved naming in a style identical to the Crimea Medal, good very fine (2) £400-£500

James Marks served as Carpenter’s Crew in H.M.S. Leander during the Crimea War; and as a Shipwright in H.M.S. Shannon during the Indian Mutiny.

Sold with copied medal roll extracts that state that the recipient’s Crimea Medal was ‘delivered onboard’, and that his Indian Mutiny Medal was ‘sent to “
Algiers”, 7 April 1862’.
