M.M. London Gazette 23 February 1918. The following citation is taken from the Regimental History: ‘Ypres area. Military Medal for 19th November 1917, for conspicuous gallantry when in charge of working parties. He was put in charge of a job which had to be completed at all costs. The position came under very heavy hostile fire, and although direct hits were registered on the work, this NCO displayed great courage and set a fine example to his men, patrolling the work and keeping the men at work. This NCO has always displayed courage in difficult situations.’
