M.M. London Gazette 2 November 1917. The following citation is taken from the Salford Pals History: ‘During a raid he led his section gallantly in face of heavy fire and kept them well in hand and led them to the enemy trenches.’ Awarded for the attack on Les Trenchées at Honnecourt by 4 officers and 85 OR’s of “X” & “W” companies of the 20th Battalion. Four M.M’s were awarded for this action.
