New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated ‘1863 to 1864’ (H. Rose, Blacksh., H.M.S. Harrier) impressed naming, edge bruise and light contact marks, otherwise very fine

Born Greenock, Scotland on 22 February 1830. Entered the service as a Blacksmith aboard H.M.S. IMPREGNABLE on 22 May 1859, and drafted to H.M.S. HARRIER on 12 June 1860 for her five year Commission. Continued to serve aboard H.M.Ships LION (1865-68), BLACK PRINCE (1868-70), SPHINX (1870-74), BOSCAWEN (1874-76) and was finally invalided from Haslar Hospital on 7 June 1878 and pensioned (18 years 333 days service) having been sent ashore from H.M.S. NARCISSUS. He had received his LS & GC medal on 15 May 1875 aboard BOSCAWEN, still rated as a Blacksmith, after 15 years service.
