Create new listSaltcoats is a town in north Ayrshire. The name is derived from the town's earliest industry when salt was harvested from the sea water of the Firth of Clyde. The issue of a general ‘Merchants’ token suggest the existence of a local trade or merchants’ association although there are no contemporary references to this.
