There were numerous J. Muirs listed as manufacturers in Paisley in the first part of the 19th century. The most likely contenders are John Muir, manufacturer of shawls and plaids between 1810 and 1837. In a similar line of business were James Muir senior and junior who were listed at various addresses in the town around the same time.
