This issue was probably made by John Wilson who was associated with various companies around Hurlet (three miles SE of Paisley) involved in quarrying and mining, including coal, alum, copperas and limestone. The companies had various office addresses in Glasgow between c. 1800 and 1850.

Scotland, hurlet (Renfrewshire), J. & J. W–, a MEXICO, Charles IIII, 8 Reales, 1796fm, Mexico City, obv. countermarked j · & j · w. hurlet · around 5/., privy mark of triangle of punched dots at right, 26.64g/12h (Manville 64a; Hodge 064aS.005b, this coin; KM. CC63). The punched privy marks partly erased, host fine, countermark a little better £800-£1,000
