Five: Sergeant M. P. Gibson, Parachute Regiment

South Atlantic 1982, with rosette (24554791 Pte M P Gibson Para); General Service 1962-2007, 1 clasp, Northern Ireland (24554791 LCpl M P Gibson Para); U.N. Medal, on UNFICYP riband; Iraq 2003-11, 1 clasp, 19 Mar to 28 Apr 2003 (24554791 Sgt M P Gibson Para); Jubilee 2002, mounted court-style as worn, with named card boxes of issue for the GSM, Iraq Medal, and Golden Jubilee Medal; and an Army Rifle Association Junior Soldiers Skill-at-Arms Meeting Medal, unnamed, bronze, with J.S. XXX, M.U. Champs, and 1981 award bars, and top ‘JSSAM’ riband bar, good very fine and better (6) £1,000-£1,400

Michael P. Gibson joined the Parachute Regiment in 1981, and underwent his training as part of 477 Platoon, where he was awarded the prize of Champion Recruit at the Passing Out parade on 19 February 1982- the senior N.C.O. on his Platoon staff was Sergeant Ian McKay, who later that year received a posthumous V.C. for his gallantry during the Falklands War. Gibson saw active service during the Falklands War later that year, and subsequently served with the Parachute Regiment in Northern Ireland, Cyprus, and Iraq, as well as qualifying for his United States Army Parachute Wings as part of the United States 82nd Airborne Division.

Sold with the recipient’s various Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces Certificates of Achievement; Recruit Company Passing Out Parade Programme; British Forces in Cyprus Identification Certificate and named UNFICYP leave pass; Physical Training Certificate; Invitation to a 20th Anniversary Dinner for Operation Corporate, 13 June 2002; the recipient’s Parachute Regimental Association Membership card; and a large quantity of group and individual photographs of the recipient.
