K.C.B.C. London Gazette 28 August 1942:
‘For brave conduct in Civil Defence.’
The original recommendation states: ‘On the nights of 25th/26th and 26th/27th April 1942, this Senior Warden, by his coolness and general bearing, set an outstanding example in his Sector. The property in the district was very badly affected by the raiding.’
Arthur Joseph Moody was born in Bath, Somerset in 1902 and was a Tobacconist by occupation and joined the Bath Civil Defence Warden’s Service in 1938. He was later appointed Senior Warden and then by examination appointed ‘Incident Officer’. He was Senior Warden in the Royal Crescent – Brook Street district at the time of the air raids on Bath in April 1942 which saw over 1,200 civilians killed or injured.
