The Collection of British Coins Formed by the Late Ray Inder

Ray Inder

Raymond Arthur Inder, MSc, FRGS (9 July 1946-17 October 2017), from Pontypridd, started collecting coins at the age of 12, funding his hobby initially from a paper round. A geography teacher at A Level standard by profession, he and his wife Eileen spent many holidays in Greece and Crete, where Ray could immerse himself in the world where his Greek coins (Lots 1242 to 1302 in this auction) ‘were born’. Numismatically, his life was enhanced by membership of several coin clubs, including the British Numismatic Society, which he had been a member of for 21 years. He gave talks, attended auctions and coin fairs, particularly in recent years the fair in Birmingham, where he enjoyed meeting up with like-minded collectors. He was a mentor to many and spent much time in his ‘man cave’ researching his coins. I saw his collection grow over the years and, for me, it is bitter-sweet to put Ray’s coins up for auction, but I know he would want others to enjoy them as much as he did. – Eileen Inder
