The casts could never have been made contemporarily; Simon’s works were never cheapened in his time, nor were prestigious gold awards also made in silver-gilt, regardless of whether cast or struck. The mid-18th century, when other Cromwell items of various kinds were being made at the Mint from original dies and copies to satisfy collector and connoisseur demands, is a likely period of time for the most professional of the casts, such as this
