Pair: Colour-Sergeant Thomas Bird, 24th Foot, wounded at Chilianwala

Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Chilianwala, Goojerat (Serjt. T. Bird, 24th Foot.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 2nd issue, large letter reverse, engraved naming (N. ..02 Cr. Serjt. T. Bird...) part of regimental number and regiment lost through edge bruising and contact marks, the first with replacement suspension claw, good fine or better (2) £500-600

Thomas Bird was born in Cork and attested for the 24th Foot at Westminster on 29 July 1837, aged 19 years. His discharge papers, dated Rawul Pindee, 30 August 1857, state: ‘His character is good, received a Medal & Gratuity of £15 for Good Conduct and Long Service on 5th March 1856 - Served with the Army of the Punjab in 1848/49 in action at Sadoolapore 3rd Decr. 1848, Chilianwala 13th Jany. & Goojerat 21st Feby. 1849 - Contusion of left hip by a Ball at Chilianwala - Received War Medal & 2 clasps for service in the Punjab on 3rd August 1852’.
