A Group of Banknotes from South Lincolnshire and the Fen Country

Foreword

The Stamford, Spalding and Boston Banking Co opened in 1831 as the Stamford and Spalding Banking Co. Boston was incorporated in the title in 1836. The bank adopted limited liability in 1880 and was taken over by Barclays Bank in 1911. Lots 3152 - 3224 were all issued from Stamford, have been redeemed and subsequently cancelled. Some have red or black lines through the signatures; others have been stamped CANCELLED or have a short V-section cut out from the signature area. Most have pinholes, signatures, stamps and endorsements on the backs.
