John William Davison joined the Pioneer Corps at the outbreak of the war (1043424 Private) and died on 17 June 1940, when the S.S. Lancastria troop ship was sunk by enemy bombers off St Nazaire. He is buried in La Bernerie-en-Retz Communal Cemetery.
