The Collection of Medals formed by the late John Seabrook

John Seabrook

The following 37 lots comprise the collection of Napoleonic medals and gallantry awards from the two World Wars formed by the late Bedfordshire collector, John Seabrook, who died on 29 August 2001.

John's national service was with the lst Battalion, Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Regiment, 1957-8. Subsequently he began collecting militaria, specialising in badges and other ephemera related to his old regiment and its forerunner, the Bedfordshire Regiment. About 20 years ago John started to focus on medals, at first concentrating on the above-mentioned regiments. Later, he developed a fascination with the Peninsula campaigns and Waterloo, subsequently selling the other elements of his collection to concentrate on this early period. His interests in the Napoleonic war extended to numerous battlefield visits over the years.

John was on the committee that produced the two-volume regimental history, The Story of the Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Regiment, in 1986, and he also helped to catalogue the regimental collection.
