Shah-wali Khan entered the 18th Bengal Lancers on 19 August 1869. He was promoted to Jemadar in October 1885 and Ressaidar in August 1897. Served in Afghanistan 1879-80 (Medal), then on the N.W. Frontier of India against the Mahsud-Waziri, 1881. He was again on the N.W. Frontier during 1897-98, in operations on the Samana and in the Kurram Valley, August-September 1897; operations of the flying column in the Kurram Valley under Colonel Richardson, 20 August-1 October 1897. (Medal with 2 clasps). Then in Tirah, 1897-98 (Clasp). Ressaidar Shah-wali Khan was pensioned on 1 December 1901. With copied research.
