Charles Richardson enlisted into the 4th Regiment at Weedon, Northamptonshire. Served briefly in Malta and Turkey before proceeding to the Crimea, 1854-56. Served in India, September 1857-February 1860 and was present at the attack on Fort Beyt on 2 April 1858 - awarded the Indian Mutiny Medal without clasp. Then served at Aden, 1860-61 and on the Somali coast, 1861. Discharged from the Invalid Department on 7 May 1862.
