Robert Lester Fairless, a native of St. Helens, Lancashire, enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps at Farnborough in July 1915. Little else is known about his career other than the fact he was posted to No. 4 Squadron, an Army Co-operation unit equipped with F.E. 8s, in January 1917, and that he was killed in action on 11 August of the same year, aged 20 years, while serving as an Air Mechanic 1st Class.
