Piercy Cheesman, draper and laceman, 71 Western road, 1839-45, later at 83 Western road [93 Western road, Adams et al, fig. 4c, may be an error address]; Samuel Francis, draper and silk mercer, 21 St James street, fl. 1832-54; Thomas Roff Tamplin, draper, 28 New road; John B. Walker, draper and laceman, St James street; James Willing, a former stagecoach driver on the London-Bristol run in the 1840s, became a pioneer in the fields of display advertising and public relations with offices at Grays Inn road, London. Later in life he took up residence in Brighton, where he presented the town with its clock-tower commemorating the Golden Jubilee in 1887
