Martinique, ——— Three Escalins or ‘Moco’, Charles III, a cut quarter segment of a Spanish-American 8 Réales, the cut edges crenated on opposite sides [which would indicate a contemporary forgery], 6.47g/99.8gr (cf. Prid. 1 [cf. Sale, lot 414]; cf. VG 21; cf. KM. 26). Very fine £120-150

These cut quarter segments with crenated edges were very well received throughout the islands and many pieces were unofficially made. It is not unusual to find these near full weight, such as the present specimen, but lightweight pieces were also made for profit
