Michael Francis Abbott Scandrett was born in Kingston, Surrey in March 1921, and attended Tiffins Public Secondary School and was a chorister at the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court. Enlisting in the Royal Air Force as an Aircraft Apprentice in January 1937, he was discharged in July 1939, when he joined the Territorials, onetime serving as a Private in the Cheshire Regiment. In April 1941, however, he transferred to the Royal Air Force Regiment, in which unit he was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in January 1943 and advanced to Flying Officer July 1943, shortly prior to his departure to the Azores with No. 2710 Squadron, where he served until returning to the U.K. in early 1945. Scandrett relinquished his commission in the R.A.F.V.R. in March 1948, on account of ill-health.

Sold with a quantity of original documentation, comprising a file of photographs and newspaper cuttings relevant to the recipient’s time as a chorister at the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court, a movement order, dated 25 April 1941, in respect of his transfer to the R.A.F. Regiment, and a large photograph of the personnel of No. 2710 Squadron, R.A.F. Regiment, July 1943.
