Charles Hart was born at Christchurch, Hampshire in March 1845 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in February 1861. Awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal while serving in H.M.S. Hart in August 1875, he went on to participate in the Perak operations aboard the same ship. He was pensioned ashore in January 1884.
