Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 3 clasps, Alexandria 11th July, The Nile 1884-85, Abu Klea (J. Gibbs, Bo’sns. Mte. H.M.S. “Monarch”) light pitting from star, otherwise very fine and scarce £600-800

The small Naval Brigade at Abu Klea comprised just 4 officers and 56 ratings under the command of Captain Lord Charles Beresford.

Jonas Gibbs was born at Ipswich, Suffolk, on 24 April 1851, and entered the Navy on 24 April 1869. He served at Alexandria in 1882 as a Boatswain’s Mate aboard the
Monarch, and with the Nile Flotilla as Acting Chief Boatswain’s Mate, still on the books of Monarch. He left the Navy in September 1885. Sold with copy record of service.
