Four: Rifleman F. A. Pocock, Rifle Brigade, who was mentioned in despatches for his services in ‘F’ Company of the 8th Battalion in N.W. Europe 1944-45

Having landed at Normandy in August 1944, ‘F’ Company experienced 11 months of hard fighting through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany, through to the Baltic - a period that resulted in nearly 140 casualties, 40 of them fatalities.

Sold with a quantity of original documentation and assorted items of uniform, the former including the recipient’s Mention in Despatches certificate, dated 9 August 1945, several wartime photographs, regimental Christmas cards and a history of ‘F’ Company, 8th Battalion, The Rifle Brigade (in which the recipient is mentioned), and the latter his battledress tunic and trousers, and cap, complete with medal ribands, “Desert Rat” arm insignia and cap badge, etc., together with his father’s B.W.M. & Victory Medal pair, in their original card boxes and registered enevelope (T4-172448 Pte. A. H. Pocock, A.S.C.).
