The Prince of Wales’s Loyal Volunteers, a very fine and rare officer’s copper-gilt die-struck shoulder belt plate, c1803-15, the rectangular back plate with clipped corners and raised design being the Prince of Wales’s crest and motto over a circular strap bearing the unit title, centrally an eight pointed star with central cross and plain strap, excellent condition £800-1000

Raised in September 1803 by Lieut-Colonel Commandant Miles Peter Andrews and Lieut-Colonel Sir Walter Stirling, Bart. As London based volunteers were not converted to Local Militia in 1808, the unit continued serving until about 1815. See also Lot 1278.
