Ernest Thorpe was born in Barwick-in-Elmet, W. Yorkshire and enlisted at York. Serving in the 8th Battalion Border Regiment he was killed in action on 10 April 1918. He was buried in the Trois Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck, Nord, France.
