Volunteer Officers’ Decoration, V.R. cypher, silver and silver-gilt, hallmarks for London 1892, the reverse privately engraved ‘Hon. Lieut. Col. Thos. Windus, 2nd. V.B.S.L. Regt. St. Helens 7th. Jany. 1893’, with integral top riband bar, in Garrard, London, case of issue; Efficiency Medal, G.VI.R., 2nd issue, Militaria (7598057 Cpl. J. Rutherford. R.E.M.E.) very fine and better (2) £100-£140

Thomas Windus ‘was sworn in as a Volunteer, and in 1889 he was promoted to the honorary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, and in February 1893 was decorated with the Volunteer Officer’s Long Service Medal [sic]. He was connected with the St. Helens Volunteer Corps over forty years, and on his retirement from the corps was granted permission to retain his rank and to wear the uniform of the corps.’ (The recipient’s obituary in The Examiner, 27 March 1902, refers).

J. Rutherford was awarded his Efficiency Medal per Army Order 27 of February 1948.
