France, Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, the Launch of the Refitted Ville d’Alger, 1948, a bronze medal by R. Delamarre, berber on rearing horse above a view of Algiers, rev. liner, diagrams of the ports of Marseille and Algiers above and below, field named (Hommage à Mme. Retrou, Mai 1950), 68mm (BM Acq. 1978-82, p.54, 51; cf. Baudey/Bricher 1992, 179; cf. DNW 58, 1569). Extremely fine and patinated; in half of original maroon card box (£70-90)

Obverse only illustrated, reduced. The Ville d’Alger was launched in 1935, when the obv. of this medal was executed; it re-entered service after a refit in 1948
