Robert Keeler was born in Co. Cavan and originally enlisted underage in the 33rd Dragoons in March 1794. Transferred to the 12th Dragoons at Nottingham as a Trumpeter in April 1796, he ‘served in Egypt and the Peninsula’ and was discharged as a consequence of being ‘old and worn out’ in December 1819, aged 43 years.
