William George Cross attested for the City of London Police on 1 October 1914, aged 23, and served with the Military Foot Police during the Great War on the Western Front from 5 July 1915. He was discharged from the M.F.P. on 9 August 1919, and returned to the City of London Police, being awarded the Coronation Medal in 1937. He retired to pension on 3 April 1941.
