A scarce Malaya Operations B.E.M. group of four awarded to Flight Sergeant E.M. Mills, R.A.F. Casualty Evacuation Flight

British Empire Medal (Military) E.II.R. (531866 F.Sgt. E. M. Mills, R.A.F.); 1939-45 Star; War Medal; General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Malaya, G.VI.R. (F.Sgt., R.A.F.) very fine and better (4) £350-400

B.E.M. London Gazette 6 March 1953 ‘In recognition of distinguished service in Malaya.’ The following recommendation was submitted by the Secretary of State for Air: ‘Flt. Sgt. Edward Mills, Royal Air Force Casualty Evacuation Flight. Flight Sergeant Mills joined this flight in November 1950, and served with it until August 1952. Throughout his tour of duty he worked many hours of overtime, both by day and night. His hard work and example, loyalty to the service, leadership and general bearing have contributed greatly to any success his unit has achieved. Initially, the helicopters were unreliable and required many modifications. The fact that individual helicopters can now be detached to isolated parts of the Federation of Malaya and operate efficiently under bad conditions, both of weather and facilities, can be directly attributed to the high standards of servicing achieved by Flight Sergeant Mills’ organisation and training of the ground crews. His work throughout his tour has been faultless and its value immeasurable. No man has made a greater contribution to the outstanding work done by the Casualty Evacuation Flight or to the very high esteem in which it is held by all the Security Services in Malaya.’

Sold with a silk map of Malaya and some further research.
