YORKSHIRE, Doncaster, oval ivory (2), Ladies Stand, Erected 1858, backs named (T.D. Bland, Esq), both 50 x 37mm, 8.88g and 8.48g (W –; D & W –; cf. DNW 176, 284) [2]. Very fine and very rare; pierced for suspension, with contemporary blue ribbons £300-£400
Thomas Davison Bland (1812-85), b. Allerton; educ. Eton and Christ Church, Oxford, matriculated 1835; succeeded to the Lordship of the Manor of Kippax Park, Pontefract, 1847; magistrate and Deputy-Lieutenant for the West Riding of Yorkshire. On 8 August 1848 at St Peter’s, Pimlico, he married Sophy Caroline Madocks (1826-56), youngest daughter of John Madocks of Glanywern, Denbighshire; she died giving birth to their third child, a daughter who was named after her. In 1860 Bland married Susanna Emily Waddington (1822-83), daughter of H.S. Waddington, of Cavenham, Suffolk. Bland died at Riding Mill, Northumberland.
