Cyril Frank Bingham Jenkins was commissioned a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the 11th (2nd Gwent) Battalion South Wales Borderers in April 1915 and promoted to Temporary Lieutenant in in July 1915 and Temporary Captain in Novembert 1915. Captain Bingham died of wounds on 13 October 1917, aged 23 years and was buried in the Wimereux Communal Cemetery. Sold with copied research details.

‘(31 July 1917) ...On nearing Iron Cross Ridge, therefore, about 9 a.m., the 11th S.W.B., who had started their advance 100 minutes after ‘Zero’ and had till then had an easy passage, suffering slightly from long range shalling, found themselves under machine gun fire from still untaken ‘pill boxes’. Two company commanders, Captain Jenkins of ‘C’ and Lieutenant Sayce of ‘D’ were hit but the 11th had soon completed the capture of Iron Cross Ridge and were sweeping down the slope leading to the Steenbeek ...’ (Ref.
