Gibbon, a native of Pencisely, Cardiff, served with the 1st Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action on 25 August 1918, whilst attached to the 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. He is buried in the Adanac Military Cemetery, Miraumont, France.
