William Charles Murray was born at Aston Manor, England, on 17 March 1898. He served with the Royal Engineers during World War I from 31 May 1016 to 20 November 1919. He served in the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, No. 605, from 1926-30 attaining the rank of Signal Sergeant, was a member of the Dominion Champion Signal Section in 1927, and the winner of the Harvie Cup in 1928. He joined the British Columbia Provincial Police on 1 May 1930, at Victoria, was promoted to corporal in August 1942, and to sergeant in December 1947. He became a member of the R.C.M.P. on 15 August 1950, at Brighouse when the B.C.P.P. were absorbed, and he retired to pension on 19 September 1955. He had been stationed at Pouce Coupe, Hudson Hope, Prince George, Victoria, Penticton, Richmond and Vancouver, B.C. He was also the pilot of the aircraft which was leased to the B.C. Provincial Police, as shown in the accompanying original photograph taken at Peace River, B.C., in August 1942. Sergeant Murray died at Richmond, B.C., on 13 December 1972, aged 74.
