Arthur Lawrence Morfee was born in England in 1897, and emigrated to London, Ontario, Canada, with his family in 1913. He joined the C.E.F. in 1915 and served with the 135th, 134th, 19th and 3rd Battalions. He went to France with the 19th Battalion in May 1917 and served there until wounded by a gun shot in the right leg on 12 August 1917. Morfee was appointed a Flight Cadet in the Royal Air Force in September 1918 and served until February 1919 as a 2nd Lieutenant. In January 1921 he joined the Canadian Air Force as a Pilot Officer, transferring to the Royal Canadian Air Force upon its organisation in 1924. A Wing Commander by the outbreak of war in 1939, Morfee held various appointments in Training Commands in Canada, until November 1944 when, as an Acting Air Vice-Marshal, he was posted on temporary duty to London, England. For his services during the war, Morfee was made a C.B.E. (Military) in May 1943, and a C.B. (Military) in June 1946. He was also appointed a Commander of the Legion of Merit in December 1949. After his retirement in 1948, he was the first national president of the R.C.A.F. Association, a director of the Air Cadet League of Canada, and vice-chairman of the Nova Scotia Corps of Commissionaires. In addition to the above honours, Morfee is also entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, Defence and War Medals, C.V.S.M. with overseas clasp, Coronation medals for 1937 and 1953, and the Canadian Forces Decoration with bar.
