Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal, Laing’s Nek (1803 Cpl., Durham Lt. Infy.); Army L.S.& G.C., E.VII.R. (1803 Sgt., Durham Lt. Infy.) slight edge bruising and some contact marks, nearly very fine (2) £110-140

Charles Maxwell was born in Whitechapel, London on 9 March 1871. A musician by trade, he attested in London on 9 March 1885 , aged 14 years, and joined the 1st Battalion Durham Light Infantry. He was appointed Bandsman on 20 January 1890, Lance-Corporal on 25 November 1896, Corporal and Band Corporal on 1 January 1899 and Sergeant on 16 May 1901. He was discharged on 31 March 1906 on the termination of his second period of engagement. He died in Fulham, on his birthday - 9 March 1942. Sold with copied service papers and a copy of his Death Certificate, together with a reproduced photograph of the the recipient in 1906 wearing the above two medals together with the K.S.A.
