A good Great War ‘Western Front’ D.C.M., M.M. group of six awarded to Company Sergeant Major E. Dickinson, Machine Gun Corps, formerly Lincolnshire Regiment

Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (3880 C.S. Mjr., 53/Coy. M.G.C.); Military Medal, G.V.R. (3880 C.S. Mjr., D.C.M., M.G.C.); 1914 Star, with clasp (7082 Sjt. (A.C.S. Mjr.), 1 Linc. R.) surname spelt ‘Dickenson’ on this medal; British War and Victory Medals (7082 W.O.Cl.2., Linc. R.); Army L.S.G.C., G.V.R., 1st issue (7807042 W.O.Cl.1, Linc. R.); together with M.G.C. cap badges (2); Royal Army Temperance Association Medals (3); shooting and other prize medals (6); miscellaneous badges, etc (4); and a small quantity of original documentation and photographs, including, Regular Army Certificate of Service; two original commission documents (W.O.i. and W.O.II); two large photographs of recipient and two group photographs, generally good very fine (21) £1200-1400

D.C.M. London Gazette 17 April 1918 ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. By his energy, zeal and cheerfulness at all times and under all conditions, he has afforded a splendid example to his company.’

The following is extracted from his Regular Army Certificate of Service ‘Has served for 27 years with the regular army. A man of exceptional ability with a very fine war record. Thoroughly temperate and reliable. He posesses tact and initiative. He is accustomed to handle men. He has considerable knowledge of finance and book keeping. As Regt. Sergt. Major of this school [Small Arms School] he has been in a position of responsibility and trust, which he has filled with success.’
