The Viceroy Lord Hardinge. “Long may he live”, nearly extremely fine and rare £200-250

Not recorded by Puddester.

After the attempted assassination of Hardinge, much money was raised for a teaching hospital in which Lady Hardinge was interested. After her sudden death in 1914, it was suggested by Queen Mary that the residential medical college, staffed entirely by women, that was founded to commemorate the visit to Delhi of the King-Emperor in 1911, should serve as a memorial to its founder, and be called by her name. The Lady Hardinge Memorial Medical College was opened by the Viceroy on 17 February 1916.
