M.I.D. London Gazette 2 July 1946:
‘For distinguished services during the defence of Hong Kong and while Prisoners of War in enemy hands.’

Herbert Howard Connor was born in Taunton, Somerset, on 23 February 1913, and served during the Second World War as a Stores Petty Officer in the Royal Navy. He was taken Prisoner of War following the fall of Hong Kong on 25 December 1941, and was held at Osaka Prisoner of War camp, Japan. Released following the cessation of hostilities, he was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 27 September 1946, and died in Berkshire in 1979.
