Pair: Sergeant J. Dean, 94th Foot, late 22nd Foot

India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, North West Frontier (3206, J. Dean. H.Ms. 1st. Bn. 22nd. Regt.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (879 Sergt., Jas. Dean, 94th. Foot) contact marks, nearly very fine (2) £300-£400

James Dean was born in Macclesfield, Cheshire, in 1833, and attested for the 22nd Regiment of Foot on 20 January 1852. He was promoted Corporal on 16 October 1855, and Sergeant on 6 December 1856, and was discharged on 26 April 1862, after 10 years and 97 days’ service. He re-engaged in the 94th Foot on 23 October of that year, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, together with a gratuity of £5, 2 September 1870. He transferred to the 2nd Royal Cheshire Militia on 23 September 1870, and was discharged on 26 August 1873, after 21 years and 40 days’ service.
