Six: Captain W. T. Gandy, Hampshire Regiment, late 18th (Public Schools) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers

William Theodore Gandy was born in Accrington, Lancashire, on 5 November 1895, and following the outbreak of the Great War joined the 18th (Public Schools) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. He served with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 14 November 1915, and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Hampshire Regiment on 25 September 1916. He served with the 1st Battalion on the Western Front, and was promoted Lieutenant on 26 March 1918. Gandy relinquished his commission on 9 November 1920; at the time of applying for his First World War Medals he was residing at 18 Market Street, Eastleigh, Hampshire.

Commissioned Lieutenant into the Hampshire (Fortress) Royal Engineers Territorial Force on 10 May 1926, Gandy resigned his commission on 11 August 1930. Following the outbreak of the Second World War he was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers on 3 September 1939, and was promoted War Substantive Lieutenant on 3 March 1941, and Temporary Captain on 21 May 1942. He was demobilised in 1946, and died in Cornwall in 1983.
