Military General Service 1793-1814, 3 clasps, Vimiera, Busaco, Albuhera (William Humphries, 40th Foot.) edge bruise, otherwise nearly extremely fine £1,400-£1,800

Provenance: Baldwin, January 1953.

Unique combination of clasps to the M.G.S. medal.

William Humphries was born in the Parish of Beckington, Somerset, and enlisted into the 40th Foot on 25 August 1799, aged eighteen, a labourer by trade. He was discharged on 13 April 1813, in consequence of ‘a wound on the 16th May 1811 at Albuhera in Spain that caused the loss of his right leg and received a gun shot in the left leg on the same day in the field of Battle.’ He was pensioned at 1s/3d per diem and died on 14 March 1858.
