A Second War casualty group of five awarded to Wellington pilot, Squadron Leader P. B. Chamberlain, 75 (New Zealand) Squadron, Royal Air Force, who was killed with his crew during a raid on Nuremburg, 12/13 October 1941

Paul Burton Chamberlain was the husband of Florence Margaret Chamberlain. He passed out from R.A.F. Cranwell, having been awarded the Sword of Honour, in 1936. Chamberlain was commissioned Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force in August 1936, and advanced to Flying Officer in February 1938. He was promoted to Flight Lieutenant in February 1940, and to Squadron Leader in March 1941.

Chamberlain served operationally as a pilot with 75 (New Zealand) Squadron (Wellingtons) operating from Feltwell, Norfolk. He, along with his crew of five, were killed in action during a raid to Nuremburg, 12/13 October 1941, ‘T/o Feltwell. Crashed in the vicinity of Dinant (Namur), Belgium, where the crew are buried in the Military Cemetery.’ (Royal Air Force Bomber Command Losses of the Second World War refers).
