Army L.S. & G.C., W.IV.R. (W. Hoskin, Serjeant 4th Regiment Foot. 1836.) fitted with original steel clip and ring suspension, nearly very fine £1,200-£1,500

William Hoskin was born in the Parish of St Teath, near Camelford, Cornwall, and attested for the 4th (King’s Own) Foot at Portsmouth on 1 December 1813, aged 23, a labourer by trade. He was promoted to Corporal just 11 days later and served with the regiment in the Peninsula and in North America. He received a gunshot wound to the thigh at New Orleans on 8 January 1815, at which action British casualties amounted to 291 killed, 1,262 wounded, and 484 missing. He afterwards served in Captain Craig’s No. 5 Company at the battle of Waterloo and was promoted to Sergeant on the day following the battle. He was discharged at Chatham on 9 September 1834.
