Matthys Gerhardus Swart was born at Humansdorp, Cape Province, on 20 July 1918, and attested for the South African Medical Corps on 9 August 1940. He served during the Second World War in East Africa from 11 November 1940 to 16 September 1941, and subsequently in the Middle East from that date until 3 February 1943. Transferring to the South African Air Force on 2 September 1943, he was commissioned Second Lieutenant on 14 October 1944, and was posted to 44 Squadron as an Observer. He was promoted War Substantive Lieutenant on 14 April 1945, and was released on 26 October 1945.

Ronald William Robson was born on 1 December 1913, and attested for the 5th Field Brigade, South African Infantry on 28 September 1940. He served during the Second World War in North Africa from 21 June 1941, and was discharged on 28 July 1945.

Both groups sold with copied service papers.
