John Irving Graham attested for the Royal Sussex Regiment on 31 May 1915, and served with the Machine Gun Corps during the Great War. He was discharged on account of wounds on 20 August 1918, and was awarded a Silver War Badge.

Horace Henry Hakin was born in Mexborough, Yorkshire, in 1899. He attested for the Royal Artillery on 19 April 1915, giving his age as 18 years and 6 months, but was discharged on 22 July of that year when it was found that he was underaged. He re-enlisted into the Army Service Corps at Pontefract, Yorkshire, on 1 November 1916, again giving his age as 18, and served with the Machine Gun Corps Motors as part of the 19th Battery during the Third Afghan War. He was discharged on 12 December 1919.
