James Smith was born and lived in Lambeth, London. Serving in the 5th Dragoon Guards, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 9 November 1914. He was killed in action on 25 March 1918. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial.

With original damaged card boxes of issue and damaged registered envelope addressed to ‘Mrs L. Smith, w Mawby St., South Lambeth (?)’ With copied m.i.c. and casualty details.
