Jack Powers was born in 1894 and enlisted as a Driver in the Royal Engineers on 2 January 1914. He served with No. 12 Field Company during the Great War on the Western Front from 8 September 1914, and transferred to the Reserve on 14 February 1919. During the Second World War he served with the 4th (Luton) Battalion, Bedfordshire Home Guard, and was promoted Lieutenant on 26 October 1943.

Sold with a 1914 Christmas Tin; Church Lads Brigade Cross, bronze, with ‘1910’ date bar and integral top riband bar; cap badge and lapel badges; Third Class Certificate of Education; Certificate of Transfer to the Reserve and Discharge Certificate; Bedfordshire Territorial Army Association letters regarding the Defence Medal; and various photographs of the recipient.

Ronald Walter Shawl was born on 10 September 1922 and served during the Second World War with the 6th (Dunstable) Battalion, Bedfordshire Home Guard from 17 January 1941 to 31 December 1944. He subsequently served with the Royal Artillery (Territorial Army), and was discharged on 12 September 1957.

Sold with the recipient's named Home Guard Service Certificate; Certificate of Service; Soldier's Service and Pay Book; Soldier's Record and Pay Book; East Central District Battle Platoon Competition 1943 Certificate; Discharge Certificate; and a large quantity of group and individual photographs.

George Gazeley served during the Second World War with the 3rd (Ampthill) Battalion, Bedfordshire Home Guard, from 10 June 1940 to 20 September 1943. He died on 9 March 1946.

C. J. Freeman served during the Second World War with the 8th (Bedford) Battalion, Bedfordshire Home Guard, and was promoted Major on 1 March 1943.
